Two arrested as DCI seizes Sh4.6 million cannabis haul in Nakuru

Two suspects have been arrested after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intercepted a vehicle transporting cannabis worth approximately Sh4.62 million along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway.

According to the DCI, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) acted on intelligence indicating that a suspicious vehicle, registration number KDX 264K, was being used to ferry illegal drugs.

The detectives mounted an operation and waited along the highway before spotting the targeted vehicle. However, the driver allegedly ignored orders to stop and instead sped off, prompting a chase towards the Subukia area.

In a statement posted on its X account on June 18, 2026, the DCI said the pursuit ended after officers tactically immobilised the vehicle.

“Officers signalled the driver to stop, but instead of complying, he floored the accelerator and attempted a daring escape, triggering a high-speed pursuit towards Subukia area,” the agency said.

The DCI added that detectives managed to bring the chase to an end by deflating the vehicle’s front tyre.

Two suspects, identified as David Wafula and Loise Akoth, were arrested at the scene.

A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of seven sacks containing cannabis sativa weighing a total of 154 kilograms. Investigators believe the narcotics had been carefully concealed for transportation.

“Two suspects, David Wafula and Loise Akoth, were immediately arrested at the scene,” the DCI stated.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court. The recovered drugs have been retained as exhibits.

The DCI reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking networks and protecting communities from the effects of narcotics abuse.
