Two suspects have been arrested after police recovered several stolen mobile phones and electronic gadgets during an intelligence-led operation targeting illicit electronic trade in Nairobi.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the operation was carried out by officers from Kamukunji Police Station on Monday, July 27, 2026, following intelligence that led them to a suspected outlet within the Nairobi Bus Station precinct.
The operation, which the NPS described as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle street mugging networks, resulted in the recovery of assorted mobile phones and other electronic devices believed to have been stolen from unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement shared on its X account on Tuesday, July 28, the service said, “Acting on a tip-off, police mounted a swift operation that led to the recovery of assorted mobile phones and other electronic gadgets suspected of having been forcibly snatched from unsuspecting members of the public.”
Police confirmed that “two primary suspects were arrested and placed in custody pending arraignment,” adding that the recovered handsets and electronic gadgets have been securely retained as exhibits to support investigations and prosecution.
The latest operation forms part of a broader intelligence-led campaign aimed at disrupting illegal electronic trade and cutting off markets for stolen devices, which authorities say fuel street crime across the city.
The National Police Service also urged members of the public to exercise caution when purchasing electronic gadgets, warning against buying devices from unauthorized dealers.
The agency stated, “The National Police Service once again strongly cautions the public against purchasing unverified gadgets from unlicensed dealers.”
It further encouraged Kenyans to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through emergency numbers 999 and 911, as well as the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline.
Authorities say public cooperation remains critical in the fight against phone theft, street robberies and the illegal trade in stolen electronics, as security agencies continue operations to dismantle criminal networks operating within Nairobi and other urban centres.
