Wetang’ula visits recovering Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi after India treatment

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on May 7, 2026 visited recovering Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi at his Nairobi residence following the legislator’s return from India, where he underwent months of specialised medical treatment.

The visit, marked by messages of solidarity, unity and hope, highlighted the close bonds within Kenya’s parliamentary leadership as Wanyonyi continues his recovery away from active public service.

Speaking after the meeting, Speaker Wetang’ula said the National Assembly fraternity remained firmly supportive of the Kwanza lawmaker throughout his recovery journey and expressed optimism that he would soon resume his parliamentary duties.

“On behalf of the National Assembly family, we conveyed our goodwill and wished him a speedy and full recovery,” said the Speaker.

Wetang’ula also reassured residents of Kwanza Constituency that development projects and public programmes initiated by Wanyonyi remain on track despite his temporary absence from active duty.

He noted that key initiatives championed by the MP continue to receive close supervision to ensure uninterrupted service delivery and sustained development momentum until the legislator fully recovers.

The Speaker described Parliament as an enduring institution built not only on legislative responsibility, but also on mutual support during moments of both strength and vulnerability.

Among the leaders who accompanied the Speaker were Bungoma Senator Wafula Wakoli, nominated Senator Connie Wakwabubi and Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UN-Habitat Susan Nakhumicha, reflecting a broad show of support for the veteran legislator.

Wanyonyi, a respected political figure in Western Kenya, has been away from active parliamentary engagements in recent months while undergoing treatment abroad, with leaders expressing optimism over his steady recovery.

Earlier this year, Speaker Wetang’ula visited the Ford Kenya Party legislator at KIMS Health Care Management Limited in Kerala, India, where he was receiving treatment and rehabilitation.
