Angry ex-girlfriend sets police officer’s house on fire at GSU Embakasi B campus

Police in Embakasi, Nairobi County, are investigating an incident that saw a house of a police officer within the GSU Embakasi B Campus set on fire.

According to a report filed at Embakasi Police Station, David Kwalanda, a police officer attached to the camp, was in the company of two ladies in his uni-hut house when his ex-girlfriend arrived at around 2 am Friday, July 31. Her arrival prompted an altercation between them.

“The complainant then escorted the two ladies out of the camp,” the police report reads in part. “While at the gate, he was alerted that his house was on fire.”

Meanwhile, the fire was extinguished with the assistance of the officer’s colleagues residing within the camp, but not after damage had been done.

As a result of the fire, assorted household goods valued at approximately KSh200,000, assorted police kit/items issued to the officer, and government stores were destroyed. No injuries were reported.

Police are now treating Kwalanda’s former girlfriend as the prime suspect who started the fire.
