A conflict is emerging within the broad-based government concerning the amount of money counties should receive from the national government in the next financial year (2025/2026).
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who also the Nairobi County Senator, on Friday, June 13 threatened that it could be over with the broad-based government if counties do not receive an increased allocation of up to KSh450 billion.
Sifuna, who spoke in Vihiga during area Senator Godfrey Osotsi’s address to county assembly, accused the National Assembly as well as the Executive for what he said was “undermining” devolution.
While senators propose that counties should get up to KSh465 billion in the next financial year, MPs have proposed KSh405 billion, leading into a stalemate.
The matter has now been forwarded for mediation, which will be spearheaded by a team of 18 members comprising of 9 senators and 9 MPs who are to arrive at a common ground over the matter.
Senator Sifuna’s remarks were backed up by Osotsi, who is also the ODM Deputy Party Leader.
