Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have dismantled a high-value fake gold syndicate operating in Nairobi’s affluent Runda estate, arresting four suspects linked to the elaborate scam.
The suspects, Felix Odiambo Otieno, Derrick Odhiambo Omore, Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed, and Moses Odhiambo Auma , were nabbed during a raid at a residence on plot number 685, Glory Valley Lane. The operation was jointly conducted by DCI officers from the Nairobi Region and Gigiri Sub-county.
The crackdown followed a report from a foreign national who was swindled out of USD 200,000 (approximately KSh 25.9 million) in a bogus gold deal.
During the raid, investigators recovered about 9.5 kilograms of fake gold bars, a weighing scale, an electronic gold testing device inside a plastic briefcase, and several documents believed to be linked to the fraudulent operation.
While several other suspects managed to escape, the four arrested individuals remain in custody as investigations continue.
