Dramatic arrest of two Premier League footballers inside club’s stadium over ‘rape’

Reports are emerging that two Premier League footballers were arrested over the weekend on allegations of assault and rape.

British outlet, The Sun, reports that one of the footballers, aged 19, was questioned by police officers on allegations of aiding and abetting a rape.

After a brief interrogations, the player was allowed to leave the stadium, before he was formally arrested, spending the night behind bars.

The following day, the report says, his teammate, who is also 19, was arrested and grilled on allegations of rape.

The duo has since been freed on bail pending further investigations.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the alleged rape occured on Friday, April 19 night. The complainant reported the matter to the police hours after the alleged ordeal.

“Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape. A 19 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape.

“A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both men have since been released on police bail,” a police spokesperson told The Sun.

A club spokesman said: “As the matter is now in the hands of the police, the Football Club will not be making further comment at this stage.”

This is not the first time the Premier League is being plagues with rape accusations.

Former Manchester United wingers Mason Greenwood and Antony have had to grapple with rape and assault accusations in the past.
