Fact Checker | No nightclubs and tattoos: June Chepkemei has a rich CV

Following the appointment of June Chepkemei, the former Managing Director of Kenya Investment Authority, as the new CEO of the Kenya Tourism Board, some individuals took to social media to undermine her appointment, insinuating that her selection was based on factors unrelated to her professional qualifications. TV47’s fact-checking team conducted an investigation into these claims.

Initially, there was a suggestion that June had attended the inauguration of President William Ruto and exchanged greetings with him, as evidenced by a widely circulated video.

However, upon closer examination, one can clearly see that the individual in the video is not June, but rather Betty Githinji, an employee of a digital publishing company.

After June Chekemei’s appintment, a section of Kenyans had erroneously — either by design or omission — suggested that she is the same lady in this screengrab of a video taken during the inauguration of President William Ruto.

Regarding the second claim, which featured photos of an unidentified individual in a nightclub allegedly depicting June, we simply used Google reverse image search and even traced the original owner of the photos. We were also able to trace her social media profiles, but due to privacy concerns, certain details about her have been withheld.

So, who is June Chepkemei?
