Finance Bill 2026 Townhall on TV47: A chance for youth engagement

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi is set to headline the Finance Bill 2026 Townhall hosted by TV47 on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 as discussions around taxes, the cost of living and the economy continue to dominate public debate.

The town hall session, which will be held at the Chandaria Centre for Performing Arts, also known as the Chandaria Auditorium at the University of Nairobi, from 6:30pm to 9:00 pm, comes amid growing calls for greater youth engagement in discussions surrounding the Finance Bill 2026/2027.

The live discussion is expected to focus on taxation, jobs, the rising cost of living and the country’s economic future ahead of the Finance Bill debate in Parliament.

The event also comes at a time of growing public concern over high fuel prices, increased taxation and the ongoing transport disruptions linked to the recent fuel price hike.

The Finance Bill 2024 sparked widespread public backlash and protests across the country, increasing pressure on the government to ensure greater public participation and transparency in future financial proposals.

The TV47 townhall is expected to provide young people with an opportunity to directly engage the Treasury CS, understand the contents of the Finance Bill 2026 and raise questions on issues affecting them.

The government is targeting an astronomical revenue target of KSh 3.533 trillion composed of KSh 2.901 trillion in ordinary revenue and KSh 632 billion in appropriations-in-aid.

Mbadi has previously defended the importance of public participation in the Finance Bill process, saying Kenyans should remain actively involved in discussions on public finance.

“I am very happy that Kenyans are alert and want to be more engaging in discussing issues finance bill because really this is the way it should because all issues financial must be open, transparent and we must be accountable to Kenyans,” he said.

TV47 will broadcast live across its platforms as part of efforts to engage the public on the proposed economic measures and their impact on households and businesses.

Kenyans, especially the youth, are encouraged to follow the discussion and participate in the conversation as Mbadi outlines key proposals contained in the Finance Bill 2026.
