Four killed, 100 homes swept away as flash floods hit Sindo

The death toll from flash floods that hit Sindo area, Suba South Sub-County, on Sunday, April 29 has risen to four.

Authorities on Monday, April 29 evening recovered the body of a child even as the residents continue to grapple with the dire situation.

Among those who drowned were a woman and her two children aged 8 and 5 after they were swept downstream when they were heading to Sindo market. The father, who was also with them, was rescued by residents after he got stuck on a log. He is recuperating at Suba Sub-County Hospital.

Suba Deputy County Commissioner Sebastian Okiring said about 100 houses were destroyed by rocks and running water in the village.

Suba South MP Caroli Omondi said the phenomenon needs to be explained, claiming that it’s not a normal scenario.

The affected villagers called upon both the County and National Government to come to their rescue.
