Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has expressed his condolences following a tragic road accident along the Mwea-Embu Highway that claimed eight lives on Saturday morning.
In a message shared on his official X account on August 1, 2026, Gachagua said he received news of the accident with great sorrow, extending his sympathies to the families and friends of the victims.
“I have learnt of the tragic road crash at Red-Soil in Mwea-Embu Highway with deep pain this morning,” Gachagua wrote.
He added: “My heartfelt sympathies go to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who have tragically lost their lives in the accident.”
The DCP leader also wished a quick recovery to the survivor who was injured in the crash.
“To those receiving treatment in hospitals, I wish you a speedy recovery. My prayers are with you,” he said.
Gachagua further prayed for strength for the bereaved families, saying, “May God grant the bereaved strength and comfort during this difficult time and the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.”
His message came after a fatal collision involving a tuk-tuk and a lorry at Murubara in the Red Soil area along the Mwea-Embu Highway in Kirinyaga County.
According to police, the tuk-tuk was carrying workers who were travelling to a rice farm for a planting job when the accident occurred on the morning of Saturday, August 1st.
The tragedy has once again renewed concerns over road safety on Kenyan highways, with leaders urging motorists and road users to exercise greater caution to help prevent further loss of life.
