The National Restoration Movement (NRM) has been unveiled as a new political party, positioning itself as a Gen Z-driven outfit ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party, whose leaders describe it as a youth-led movement, is set to be officially launched on June 24th, 2026. According to its leadership, the date is significant as it will be used to commemorate and honor the young people who lost their lives during the Gen Z protests.
The movement noted that these events have played a significant role in shaping political awareness and activism among the youth, and form part of the foundation upon which the party seeks to build its identity.
Speaking during the unveiling, NRM Chairman Rogers Onyancha Gattuso said the party intends to issue free tickets for all elective seats. He explained that the move is aimed at lowering barriers for aspiring leaders, particularly young people who often face financial challenges in accessing political opportunities.
He, however, clarified that individuals seeking to contest for positions through the party will be required to pay a facilitation fee of five hundred shillings.
“The members who wish to be officials or aspirants of the party, from ward level to the national level, will pay a registration fee of KSh 500,” he stated.
Gattuso further emphasized that the National Restoration Movement will remain independent, noting that it will not align itself with any political faction, whether in government or opposition. He said the party is focused on offering an alternative leadership platform driven by fresh ideas and inclusivity.
He added that the party’s full ideology and manifesto will be unveiled during the official launch later in June, as it seeks to consolidate support and formally introduce its agenda to the public.
The unveiling marks the beginning of what the party describes as a new chapter in youth-led political engagement in the country.
