Getting out of hand! Police probe identity of female torso found in bag along Embakasi’s Airport North Road

Police in Embakasi, Nairobi County, are investigating an incident where the body of a woman was found dumped along a busy road in the area.

Members of the public bumped into the body stashed in a polythene bag and dumped beside Airport North Road, opposite Rubis Petrol Station and the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport fence.

The report was made at Embakasi Police Station at around 6:40 pm on Saturday, May 23, with the body found stashed in a Nigerian bag.

“National Police Service officers from Embakasi visited the scene MR 677555 about 3km south of the station and confirmed that a human torso of a female gender in advanced state of decomposition was parked in a Nigerian polythene bag with the scene appearing secondary scene,” a police report seen by TV47 Digital reads.

Eye witnesses say it appears the body was hacked using a hacksaw, to remain with a torso only.

“Niliona maboys wawili pale wakatuita wakatuambia kuna kitu imefungwa hapa twende tuangalie ni nini…Tukapata mwili imekatwa hapa kwa kiuno, sasa sehemu ya kiuno ya chini hamna, mikono yote hamna na kichwa pia hamna,” an eye witness told TV47 Digital. “Ni kama alikuwa msichana mdogo kwa sababu hakuwa amekomaa sana!”

It appears that the victim was murdered elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene.

The body has since been moved to City Mortuary for preservation pending an autopsy and identification.

National concern

This shocking discovery comes days after the National Police Service (NPS) expressed its concerns by the rising cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), including femicide, which continue to pose a serious threat to the safety, dignity, and well-being of women and girls across the country.

In recent years, Kenya has witnessed a disturbing trend of violence against women and girls, with NPS underscoring the need for collective national attention and a united response from all sectors of society to handle the crisis.

The Service insists that it continues to respond firmly and proactively through enhanced investigations, operational reforms, and strengthened collaboration with key stakeholders.

The police also highlighted some of the notable femicide cases that they have successfully finalised, including the Monica Kimani murder that saw Joseph Irungu alias Jowie sentenced to death fillowing his conviction in 2024.
