The family of the late Raila Odinga has hit back at retired President Uhuru Kenyatta following his recent remarks claiming that the long-serving ODM Party leader won the 2022 Presidential Election.

​Speaking at the family’s rural home in Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, Siaya County, Raila’s younger brother, Omondi Oginga, said the former president’s comments have re-inflicted emotional pain on a family still grieving the death of the veteran politician.

​Oginga urged the former Head of State to refrain from dragging Raila into past political disputes as the country prepares for the upcoming 2027 General Election.

​”We are still coming to terms with the loss of my brother nearly a year after his death,” Oginga told journalists on Wednesday, September 23. “President Uhuru’s remarks have only added pain to our grief.”

​The family’s reaction follows statements made by Uhuru during a Jubilee Party meeting in Nairobi, where he asserted his firm belief that Raila had emerged victorious in the August 2022 polls, despite President William Ruto being declared winner and the result subsequently being upheld by the Supreme Court.

​Questioning the timing and intent of the former president’s statement, Oginga noted that Uhuru held state power at the time and had the capacity to safeguard Odinga’s presidential victory if he had truly intended to.

​”He was the sitting president at the time and had all the powers to support Raila’s bid to become Kenya’s fifth president, but failed to do so,” Oginga stated, urging political leaders to allow the family peace of mind as they heal.
