Harry Maguire: I’m sure I will play a lot of games for Man United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is now confident about playing more games for the club after his summer transfer to West Ham fell through.

In an interview with the Express, Maguire revealed that he endured a challenging period on the bench but is hopeful that his situation will improve following his performances with the England national team.

“The first four weeks were tough because it was one game a week, and the manager didn’t select me, but we have many games coming up now, and I am sure I will play a lot,” Maguire stated.

Regarding his collapsed move to West Ham, last month, there were widespread reports that Manchester United had reached an agreement with West Ham for the 30-year-old defender, with a deal worth around £30 million.

However, Maguire now discloses that they couldn’t reach an agreement with the London club.

He mentioned that the 20-time English champions were pleased to see him stay at Old Trafford, and he is determined to repay the faith they have shown in him.

“West Ham? We just couldn’t come to an agreement. Man United was happy for me to stay, and I was happy to fight for my place. Every time I train or play, I will give everything,” Maguire affirmed.

Harry Maguire joined Manchester United in August 2019 in a record £80 million transfer from Leicester City, making him the most expensive defender in football history to date.

He was given the captain’s armband by then-head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just six months later but has since lost the captaincy to Bruno Fernandes under the current manager, Erik ten Hag.

Maguire confronts a significant challenge in regaining his position in the United defense, as he lost it due to the arrivals of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

The return of academy graduate Jonny Evans, the consistency of Victor Lindelof, and the versatility of Luke Shaw have also pushed Maguire further down the hierarchy.
