Justice Gatembu Kairu has been elected the new President of the Court of Appeal after securing 26 votes in an election held by judges of the appellate court.
A total of 41 ballots were cast, with Justice Gatembu emerging victorious over three other contenders Lady Justice Lydia Achode, Justice Patrick Kiage, and Lady Justice Agnes Murgor.
The election marks a significant leadership transition at the country’s second-highest court.
As President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Gatembu will oversee the administration of the appellate court and provide judicial leadership to judges serving at the level.
The position became vacant following the end of the tenure of the immediate former President of the Court of Appeal Musinga paving the way for the election of new leadership.
