Kalonzo warns of planned political instability in Kenya

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused some leaders of deliberately creating tension and insecurity in the country as Kenya approaches the 2027 General Election. He warned that such actions could be aimed at destabilizing the nation and interfering with the electoral process.

Speaking during an interview on Monday May 11, 2026 in the morning, Kalonzo claimed that there are individuals within leadership circles who are planning internal conflicts to create chaos and fear among citizens.

According to him, the intention behind the rising political hostility is to push the country into instability, ultimately making it difficult for elections to be conducted peacefully.

The opposition leader also condemned increasing cases of what he termed as “goonism” during political meetings and rallies.

He revealed that opposition leaders have already engaged the police and urged security agencies to stop interfering with opposition gatherings and to protect citizens attending political events.

Kalonzo argued that Kenya risks sliding into dangerous political territory if intimidation, propaganda, and insecurity continue being normalized.

Drawing a historical comparison, he warned against adopting tactics similar to those used during Adolf Hitler’s rule in Germany.

“Kamwe Kenya haiwezi kuruhusiwa kama Germany,” he stated, warning against politics built on fear, division, and manipulation.

He further accused the government of allowing violence and insecurity to grow unchecked, saying President William Ruto has failed in his responsibility to guarantee security for Kenyans.

“Ruto ameruhusu vijana kuuawa ovyo ovyo na ameharibu mambo mengi sana,” Kalonzo said during the interview.

His remarks now place him alongside other opposition leaders, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and Siaya Governor James Orengo, who have recently raised concerns over alleged political intimidation, attacks on rallies, and the state of democracy in the country.

Kalonzo maintained that Kenya must remain democratic and peaceful despite political differences, insisting that elections should be determined by voters and not by fear, violence, or engineered instability.

As political temperatures continue to rise ahead of the 2027 elections, opposition leaders appear to be intensifying pressure on the government over security, political tolerance, and freedom of assembly.
