Man fighting for his life after being set ablaze by wife in Siaya

A man is fighting for his life at Siaya County Referral Hospital after he was reportedly set ablaze by his wife while he was asleep.

In a shocking turn of events that unfloded in Ndua Village, Kakum Kombea Sub-Location, 49-year-old Joseph Onyango Ochieng was sleeping in his house when his wife, Mercy Anyango Ochieng alias Nyakano, doused it with petrol and set it ablaze.

According to a report filed at Ndere Police Post on 7th January 2025, Onyango was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently admitted in intensive care unit (ICU) in critial condition.

“Plans are underway for the patient to be transported to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, for specialised treatment,” the police report seen by TV47 Digital reads in part.

The motive of the wife’s vicious attack is still not known, but neighbours suspect domestic wrangles.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect who still at large.
