Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has publicly admitted that he believes he should have faced jail time over the 2020 shooting of DJ Evolve whose real name is Felix Orinda. He says he has taken responsibility, including covering the DJ’s medical expenses.
Speaking on Monday, May 4, 2026, Babu Owino described the incident as unfortunate and acknowledged the weight of the responsibility he carries.
“People say in a working state I should be in jail, I agree I should be in jail… but I have been taking care of DJ Evolve’s medical bills,” he said.
Babu emphasized that he has taken full accountability, revealing the financial burden he has carried over the years.
“I have taken loans. I have spent close to KSh 70 million on his treatment. The amount I spend monthly is roughly KSh 500,000.”
He also dismissed claims made by Miguna Miguna suggesting that DJ Evolve is unable to speak, instead that the DJ is recovering.
“Felix is talking, he is improving. What he needs now is physiotherapy and he will be okay.”
The MP further stated that there was no personal conflict leading up to the shooting.
“Felix did not annoy me… it was easier for him to forgive me because he knew I was not after his life. He forgave me from day one.”
In a reflective moment, Babu likened the incident to a life-altering turning point.
“This was a Saul-to-Paul moment. It changed my life. I used to drink, I used to take hard substances… I have not tasted alcohol since 2020.”
He added that the experience also transformed DJ Evolve, saying both their lives took a different path after that night.
The shooting incident occurred on January 17, 2020, at a Nairobi nightclub, where Babu Owino shot DJ Evolve, leaving him with serious injuries that required extensive medical treatment and long-term care.
The case attracted national attention, raising questions about accountability, leadership, and justice. Over time, legal proceedings took a complex turn, with reports of reconciliation between the two parties and an eventual settlement influencing the direction of the case.
