Police have launched investigations after a murder-suicide incident in which a man allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life in Mukaa Sub-County, Makueni county.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred at about noon on May 2, 2026, at Kwa Miui village while residents were attending a funeral service in the village.
A commotion was heard from the homestead of the couple, prompting a section of residents to rush to the scene.
Upon arrival, the witness reportedly found the suspect, identified as Mwongeli Munyoki, armed with a kitchen knife, while his wife, Monica Munyoki, aged 45, was lying in a pool of blood within the compound.
The suspect fled into the house and attempted to take his own life by inflicting a deep cut to his abdomen after realizing that the villagers were planning to attack him.
Members of the public raised an alarm, alerting police officers from Salama Police Station, alongside detectives from DCI Mukaa, who responded to the scene.
The body of Monica Munyoki was found with deep cuts to the head, and injuries on both hands.
Meanwhile, the suspect was discovered unconscious in the house with a severe abdominal wound.
A blood-stained kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene and recorded as an exhibit.
The suspect was rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital in critical condition but later died while undergoing treatment.
The body of the deceased was also moved to the same hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
