Police arrest notorious armed robbery suspect in Siaya

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, August 30, arrested the main suspect involved in the robbery and murder at a cybershop in Siaya.

The suspect was arrested in connection to an incident that occurred on August 1, where a man was shot dead during a robbery incident at a cyber in Siaya County.

This was after detectives launched investigations that unearthed a criminal gang by the name ‘comrades’, which had been involved in a spate of robberies in the county.

Two motorbikes, assorted mobile phones, home appliances, national ID cards, two pangas, steel cutters, several spanners, a printer, a projector, and screwdrivers were recovered from his house.

Currently, the suspect is being held at the Yala police station as officers prepare to arraign him in court.

At the same time, the investigating team has heightened the pursuit of his accomplices and recovery of the firearms illegally possessed by the gang.

The arrest comes barely a day after police seized a consignment of 12 sacks of bhang being transported to Kisumu in a hearse.

In the bizarre incident, at Suo in Busia County, the bhang had been neatly arranged in the vehicle that is ordinarily used in the conveyance of the dead.

“As the driver hesitantly lowered his window and muttered some words after responding to the officer’s greetings, the policeman detected some smell from inside the vehicle that was not related to human remains,” read part of the police report.
