Police arrest notorious Nyeri ex-convict with crude weapons

Police in Nyeri have arraigned a wanted suspect notorious for violent robberies, peddling, mugging and phone snatching, after he was arrested in a security operation yesterday by patrol officers at Weitemere area.

Peter Ndiritu Ndirangu alias Kimaitho, 35 was arrested after concerned citizens tipped the police of his presence in the area, leading to a scrupulous manhunt that flushed him from his hideout.

Upon search, the jail bird who has spent several years in various lock up facilities was found with 12 sachets of heroin, 9 rolls of bhang, a machete and two kitchen knives tucked in his person.

Since his release from prison in December 2023, the known but slippery suspect has been implicated in various attacks reported at Weitemere, Majengo, Kiawara and Blue Valley areas of Nyeri.

The ex-convict has been remanded at King’ong’o prison without the option of a bail following his criminal record.

This comes two days after Detectives across Nairobi Region seized hundreds of suspected stolen mobile phones, laptops and tablets in an ongoing crackdown on suspicious phone repair stalls with a view to combating electronic theft surge.

In the regionwide operation conducted on March 4, 2024, over 182 mobile phones, a laptop, iPad and two heating machines were seized in Ruai and Kamulu areas, when detectives stormed Free Mack Electronic Shop and Kamale Mobile Repair in Ruai, & Friends Communication Shop in Kamulu.

In the operation, five suspects namely Fredrick Maina, Macnair Gedion, Robin Muturi, John Kamau Mwangi and Kelvin Kamau Njuguna were arrested.
