President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in mourning the death of Senator Danson Mungatana’s eight-year-old daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana.

Amal died on Sunday, September 13, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Muthaiga, Nairobi, according to a death announcement issued by the family.

She had reportedly struggled with her health since birth and received treatment both in Kenya and abroad.

In a message shared on his X account, President Ruto expressed his condolences to Mungatana and his wife, Deputy Government Spokesperson Mwanaisha Chidzuga, describing the death of a child as “a sorrow beyond measure.”

“At this profoundly difficult moment, I join your family, friends and all who knew and loved Amal in mourning a young life taken far too soon,” Ruto said.

The President prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family, adding, “May God grant you and your family strength, comfort and peace, and may Amal’s soul rest in eternal peace.”

PLP Party leader Martha Karua also sent her condolences to the family, reflecting on the long journey Mungatana and his family had taken while caring for their daughter.

“Having known you and your family for many years, this loss is deeply painful to hear of,” Karua said.

She noted that Mungatana had “walked a long and difficult road with your daughter through her illness,” and prayed that God would comfort the family during the difficult period.

Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris also mourned Amal, describing her death as a “profound and painful loss.”

In her message, Passaris extended her condolences to Mungatana and Chidzuga and encouraged the family to draw comfort from the memories they shared with their daughter.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family during this difficult period,” Passaris said, praying that God would grant them “strength, comfort and peace” as they navigate the loss.

The family’s death announcement stated that Amal’s loved ones had gathered at their home in Ngao Village, Tana River County, as preparations for her burial continued. She is scheduled to be laid to rest on Friday, September 18, 2026, in Ngao Village.

The family also remembered Amal for the joy and love she brought whenever her health allowed her to be well, saying: “We loved her but God loved her more.”
