President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in mourning former Cabinet Minister and veteran Kilgoris MP Gideon Sitelu Konchella, describing him as a dedicated public servant whose legacy will endure.
Konchella died after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital following a prolonged illness.
Taking to his X account on Saturday, June 13, President Ruto paid tribute to the former legislator, saying he had served both his constituency and the country with distinction.
“It is with profound sorrow that I have learnt of the passing of Hon. Gideon Konchellah, former Member of Parliament for Kilgoris and a distinguished Cabinet Minister,” the President wrote.
Ruto praised Konchella’s commitment to public service, noting that he spent close to two decades representing the people of Kilgoris.
“For nearly two decades, Hon. Konchellah gave himself to the people of Kilgoris, and through them, to our nation. He represented with dignity,” he stated.
The Head of State further described the late leader as one who understood the importance of leadership and public trust.
“His was a life measured not in the years he held office, but in the lives he touched and the faith his people placed in him,” Ruto said.
Konchella served Kilgoris Constituency in different terms between 2003 and 2022 under PNU, URP and Jubilee.
He also served as Minister for Immigration and Registration of Persons in former President Mwai Kibaki’s administration between 2006 and 2007, where he played a role in the implementation of the Refugee Act of 2006.
“Today, Kenya is the poorer for his loss. Kilgoris mourns a devoted son and a steadfast champion,” President Ruto added.
He conveyed his condolences to the family, friends and residents of Kilgoris, concluding his message with a prayer that the late leader’s soul rests in eternal peace.
