PS Omollo urges Busia bodaboda riders to register under Saccos and work closely with security agencies

Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration Raymond Omollo on Friday, 8th May, 2026, chaired a Boda Boda Stakeholder Engagement Forum in Busia County.

He was addressing over 2,000 riders and calling on them to organise formally, cooperate with security agencies, and take advantage of government empowerment programmes.

PS Omollo acknowledged the sector’s importance to the economy, describing it as one of the largest sources of employment for young people in the country.

He noted that similar forums had already been held in Kilifi, Kisumu, and Homa Bay, with plans to extend the engagements to all 47 counties.

PS Omollo commended Busia riders for their cooperation with security agencies, saying the working relationship between operators, National Government Administrative Officers, and security teams had played a significant role in maintaining peace in the county.

“We appreciate the support and cooperation we have continued to receive from Boda Boda operators on matters of security. This close working relationship has helped us maintain peace and respond effectively to security concerns within the county,” he said.

The PS also reiterated President Ruto’s earlier directive for the release of motorbikes impounded over petty offences, urging security commanders to facilitate the discharge of motorcycles held over minor compliance issues in line with government policy.

On organization, Omollo called on riders to register under SACCOs and recognized associations, arguing that a well-organized sector would be more professional, more accountable, and better placed to keep out criminal elements who have infiltrated the industry.

He also encouraged Busia residents to enroll under the Social Health Authority (SHA) programme, noting that over 50 per cent of residents had already signed up, and urging more to join so the government can plan healthcare delivery more effectively.

PS Omollo highlighted ongoing government development projects in the region, including road infrastructure, markets, affordable housing, and railway expansion, and called on residents to support peace and reject divisive politics.

“As people from Western Kenya, we appreciate the ongoing development programmes and the efforts being made to ensure every region benefits equally from government projects and opportunities,” he concluded.
