Members of Parliament allied to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party have defended President William Ruto over the recent increase in fuel prices.
Speaking at Nzuli Senior School in Mwingi West during a school bus handover ceremony, MPs Mwengi Mutuse of Kibwezi west and Charles Nguna of Mwingi West said the rise in fuel prices is a global issue and should not be blamed on the Kenyan government.
They attributed the increase to the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
The legislators praised the President for introducing a KSh5 billion subsidy to cushion Kenyans against the high fuel costs.
The MPs also criticized opposition leaders, accusing them of misleading Kenyans with false information regarding the fuel price hike.
At the same time, the two lawmakers called on global leaders to engage the US President in dialogue in a bid to stop the attacks and address the growing repercussions of the conflict.
The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) on Thursday, May 14 increased the prices of Super Petrol by Ksh.16.65 and that of Diesel by Ksh.46.29 per litre.
