NEPD Party leader Mike Sonko has urged President William Ruto to focus on delivering his campaign promises rather than engaging in political exchanges with rivals, arguing that the President’s political future will ultimately be determined by his record in office.

Sonko says slogans such as “Wantam” and “Tutam” would carry little weight if Kenyans do not experience meaningful improvements in their lives, insisting that wananchi judge governments by service delivery, development and economic progress—not political rhetoric.

“The President’s political lifeline depends on delivering for Kenyans, not engaging in endless political back-and-forth. Chants like ‘Wantam’ or ‘Tutam’ will mean nothing if wananchi are not benefiting from government services and development,” Sonko said during an interview with Radio Citizen on Monday, July 27 morning.

The former Nairobi governor also disclosed that several political leaders have expressed interest in joining the NEPD Party ahead of the 2027 General Election. He said the party would continue consulting Kenyans before unveiling its political direction, stressing that its focus is on championing policies that create economic opportunities and improve livelihoods.

“We will continue engaging wananchi and, at the right time, chart a political course that prioritizes development and delivers real economic benefits to the people,” he said.

On his legal battles, Sonko revealed that he is preparing an application seeking a review of his impeachment case, citing what he described as fresh evidence, including a judgment by the East African Court of Justice (EACJ). He argued that the regional court found the expedited handling of his appeal violated fundamental rights protected under the EAC Treaty and Kenya’s Constitution, and faulted the judicial process for allegedly denying him adequate time to prepare his case.
