Teacher welcomes new term by dancing with learners in class

Marion Mukenyi, a Kenyan teacher engaged her learners in a lovely and energetic dance in class as they began a new term on Monday May 13, 2024.

The teacher was celebrating schools reopening, after government postponed initial opening date of April 29, due to heavy rains that led to floods and destruction of some schools infrastructure.

In a video circulating on social media, the female teacher was glad and happy to see her learners back to school after the extended April holiday.

She engaged the learners in a song with a title, ‘New term, new experience, happy times’.

On the board she wrote, “Welcome back. Term two begins today with two smiley drawings. Each learner got an opportunity to go up to the teacher, say hi, and show off their dance move before going back to their seats.”

This was an awesome moment for the learners as gone are the days when handshaking a teacher was like a miracle.

Initially, there were cases where learners would hide when they see a teacher approaching them but currently most learners are friendly with their teachers.

At the same time, President William Ruto was at Lenana School where he freely interacted with pupils during the official opening of Lenana primary school.

The President encouraged all the learners to continue with their learning program as he promised to buy uniforms and shoes for all learners in the school.

In a separate incident, President Ruto made a phone call to a young girl, Tinsely Nduta, who went viral online after her emotional reaction to the school reopening announcement.

Nduta was disappointed after President Ruto announced that schools would open on Monday, May 13 after he had earlier declared that they would not be opened until further notice.

“Thank you, Your Excellency, for calling my daughter,” Nduta’s mother captioned her video on TikTok.

Mama Tinsley talked with the President before he asked to speak to Nduta, who had disclosed that she was not prepared to go back to school.

He was calling to explain why Nduta has to go to school after seeing her clip trending on social media.
