Teacher who defiled, impregnated 12-year-old pupil sentenced to 18 years in prison

A middle-aged man has been handed 18 years in prison for defiling and impregnating a 12-year-old girl in Busia.

The court heard that the accused person committed the offense to the minor while working as a teacher in one of the local schools in the area.

The prosecution through Faith Kaberia proved the case against the accused and called a total of 6 witnesses, who in their testimony informed the court that the accused committed the heinous act that led to the young girl getting pregnant and later miscarried.

Busia resident magistrate Eunice Serem in her verdict said the prosecution through testimonies and exhibits from witnesses had discharged the burden of proof and the accused stands convicted.

In another matter, the Resident Magistrate sentenced one Silvester Wandera to 30 years imprisonment for defiling a 5-year-old girl.

The Prosecution presented a total of 4 witnesses who informed the Court that the accused defiled the child in a cassava plantation and subsequently infected the child with a Sexually Transmitted Infection.
