Three suspected poachers have been arrested in Laikipia County after police officers from Jikaze Police Post, working alongside Kenya Wildlife Service officers, recovered six pieces of elephant tusks during a multi-agency operation conducted on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
The suspects were apprehended in possession of the tusks and have since been placed in custody pending arraignment in court, while the seized ivory has been secured as evidence.
The National Police Service described poaching as a serious threat to Kenya’s wildlife heritage, warning that it decimates endangered species, disrupts ecosystems, and undermines conservation efforts that support biodiversity, tourism, and local livelihoods.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with partner agencies to combat poaching and illegal wildlife trafficking across the country.
