As Olkalou residents prepare to elect a new member of parliament following the death of their MP, David Kiaraho, jitters have emerged with residents claiming that the process of nomination might be infiltrated by some politicians, thereby denying them their preferred candidate.
Amid this rising tension, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party has attracted a pool of over 10 candidates eyeing for the party ticket.
While addressing the matter, Hon. Faith Gitau, Nyandarua County Woman Representative, has made it clear that no candidate will be favored in the forthcoming Ol Kalou by-election.
Speaking during her Mashinani engagement with Tumaini residents in Kihoto Village, the Lawmaker underscored that the ultimate decision rests with the people and reaffirmed that UDA Party nominations will uphold the highest standards of fairness, transparency, and credibility.
“I want to promise the candidates that UDA will conduct the nomination exercise fairly. This will make sure that the people elect the best leader who will fit in the shoes of the late Kiaraho,” she noted.
Gitau added that the party would mobilize residents to rally behind the UDA candidate to clinch the seat that fell vacant after the death of the late MP David Kiaraho.
“We cannot fight the government from within and expect that the projects the late MP left uncompleted are finished. That is why I urge our people to support the government by first voting in a UDA candidate,” she noted.
The looming by-election has high stakes, with all political players from DCP, UDA and Jubilee Parties claiming that Olkalou will determine who has the say in Mt. Kenya region politics.
