Uthiru: All tenants evacuated safely after five-storey building collapses

All persons occupying the five-storey building which collapsed in Uthiru, Nairobi County on Tuesday evening have been rescued alive.

Kenya Red Cross, which was among the first responders, says ten people were evacuated with minor injuries and offered first aid.

“Ten people with minor injuries have been attended to at the scene by the Red Cross Action Team.”

One of the occupants was however rushed to hospital for specialized treatment.

“One female, who was rescued at the onset of the incident, was taken to the hospital by well-wishers,” Red Cross added.

In an update shared on Wednesday morning, all tenants had been safely evacuated.

The building, located along Naivasha Road within Kangemi, reportedly began sinking at 10pm and collapsed within minutes.

A multi-agency team comprising of Red Cross, County Fire Brigade, police officers, among others rushed to the scene in Uthiru almost immediately after receiving distress calls.
