Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru has emerged as the clear frontrunner in a new national poll on who would best help President William Ruto secure re-election in 2027.
According to a survey by Politrack Africa released on 19th June 2026, Waiguru topped the list with 30.9% support. She is followed by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at 19.3% and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga at 17.0%.
Other candidates received significantly lower support. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is polling at 9.2%, Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho at 7.5%, George Kariuki at 4.3%, former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria at 2.9%, and Mwangi Kiunjuri at 2.5%.

About 6.4% of respondents remained undecided. The poll, that was conducted online and sampled over 154,000 registered voters, asked respondents which leader they believe would have the greatest impact in securing Ruto’s re-election, focusing on their ability to deliver votes and maintain regional balance.
Analysts at Politrack Africa noted that Waiguru’s strong performance is largely linked to her perceived strength in consolidating the Mt. Kenya vote bloc, a region seen as critical for Ruto’s 2027 campaign. The report suggests that Kindiki’s support is viewed as more limited geographically, while Waiguru, coming from Kirinyaga, is seen as having wider appeal across the region.
The survey also highlighted Waiguru’s executive experience as a sitting governor and her potential to attract broader support, including among women voters. Gladys Wanga on the other hand emerged as the strongest opposition figure in the poll, though her ability to deliver a unified bloc of votes was seen as constrained by internal divisions within ODM.
