Police have seized 4,100 litres of illicit alcohol during a targeted operation in the Soweto area of Kasarani Sub-County as authorities intensify efforts to combat illegal brews and narcotics.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Saturday, August 1, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers from Kahawa West Police Station, working jointly with National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), carried out the operation on Friday, July 31.
According to the NPS, the multi-agency team targeted suspected illegal brewing activities and narcotics within the area, leading to the recovery of large quantities of illicit alcohol.
“During the operation, officers recovered 4,000 litres of Kangara, 100 litres of Chang’aa, and multiple brewing apparatuses and distillation equipment,” the statement said.
The seized brewing equipment is expected to aid investigations as authorities continue pursuing those involved in the production and distribution of illegal alcohol.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to dismantle illicit brewing networks and curb the circulation of unregulated alcoholic drinks, which pose significant health and safety risks to the public.
Reaffirming its commitment to the crackdown, the National Police Service said it remains determined to eliminate dangerous brews and narcotics from communities across the country.
“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to the fight against dangerous, unregulated brews and narcotics that threaten public health and safety,” the agency stated.
The NPS also appealed to members of the public to support the campaign by sharing information on suspected criminal activities.
“Members of the public are urged to cooperate with law enforcement officers and to report any suspected criminal activities within their neighbourhoods,” the statement added.
Police encouraged residents to report information through the nearest police station, emergency numbers 999 and 911, or anonymously via the #FichuaKwaDCI toll-free hotline and WhatsApp reporting channels.
