Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata on Sunday June 14, 2026 joined the Linda Mwananchi movement during a rally at Kivulini grounds in Thika, in what emerged as one of the biggest highlights of the opposition-led tour in the Mount Kenya region.
Kang’ata, who explained his decision to associate with the movement, said he was motivated by the need to stand with ordinary Kenyans and support leaders championing issues affecting wananchi. He argued that the movement has increasingly positioned itself as a platform focused on the interests and welfare of citizens.
“Linda mwananchi ndio ile vuguvugu ambayo imeleta wakenya wote pamoja,” he said.
His appearance alongside Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and former Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo underscored the movement’s growing reach and renewed efforts to build political alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Addressing supporters, Kang’ata also called for greater cooperation among opposition leaders, urging political players to work together in pursuit of a common agenda for the country.
“Nimeambia Sifuna, babu na Orengo watafute Wamunyoro, alias Rigathi Gachagua”
The rally attracted a great Mt.Kenya turnout, with leaders describing the reception in the Mount Kenya region as evidence that their message was gaining traction beyond their traditional political bases.
Siaya Governor James Orengo expressed confidence in the movement’s growing influence, pointing to Kang’ata’s presence as a sign of shifting political dynamics.
“When I see Kang’ata today, I know the game is done,” Orengo told supporters.
Kangata also criticized the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing it of focusing heavily on the affordable housing programme while failing to adequately address broader development concerns and the economic challenges facing ordinary Kenyans.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna echoed calls for opposition cooperation, hinting at future political partnerships and the possibility of like-minded parties working together as preparations for the 2027 elections gather pace.
Former LSK President Faith Odhiambo, who also joined the tour, reiterated the need for leadership that prioritizes accountability, good governance and the interests of citizens.
The Linda Mwananchi movement has in recent months intensified grassroots engagements across the country, with opposition leaders using the platform to rally support, criticize government policies and advocate for a united political front ahead of the next election cycle.
