Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente has unveiled his final 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with no Real Madrid player making the final list, in an event held in Madrid`, Monday, May 25, 2026.
Defenders Dani Carvajal and Dean Huijsen were among the notable absentees in the squad announced ahead of the tournament set to run from June 11 to July 19.
The selection instead features a strong FC Barcelona presence, with eight players from the club included in the squad. They include Joan Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Eric Garcia, Gavi, Pedri, Dani Olmo, Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres.
Yamal was named in the squad despite ending the club season with an injury concern, although his fitness for Spain’s opening matches remains uncertain.
Seven players currently featuring in the Premier League were also selected, among them David Raya, Rodri, Martin Zubimendi, Pedro Porro, Marc Cucurella, Yeremy Pino and Mikel Merino, who recently returned from a lengthy injury layoff.
Uncapped defenders Eric Garcia and Marc Pubill also received call-ups following impressive performances for their clubs during the season.
Spain, who lifted the UEFA Euro 2024 title after exiting the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the round of 16, will begin their Group H campaign against Cape Verde on June 15 before facing Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.
