The Award winning Tanzanian Bongo artist Zuchu on March 6, 2024 issued an apology for preforming without following customs and traditions of Zanzibar

She issued the apology on her official Instagram page, emphasizing that her actions were only intended for entertainment and not meant to disrespect the culture of the people of Zanzibar.

The Bongo artist issued an apology after she was fined Sh1 million as well as being suspended for six months by Zanzibar Arts, census and film cultural council [BASSFU] following her performance at Fullmoon Kendwa on the night of February 24,2024.

This was after videos of the performance made rounds on social media

The Zanzibar Arts ,census and film cultural council [BASSFU ] role is to support the cultural traditions of the island of Zanzibar

BASSFU conducted an investigation and concluded that zuchu’s performance did not follow customs and traditions of Zanzibar

Omar Abdalla Adam, the executive secretary of BASSFU emphasized the council’s dedication in maintaining the Zanzibar’s cultural identity and maintaining its values.

Further investigation revealed that the singer had not registered with BASSFU and did not own the necessary permits to perform in Zanzibar

”The council has the responsibility to oversee the customs, traditions and culture of Zanzibar. Therefore ,we are officially suspending zuchu from engaging in any artistic activities in Zanzibar for six months starting from 5th March ”Abdalla Adam stated.

Meanwhile, Zuchu was signed to WCB Wasafi record in the year 2020.

In 2022, she became the most subscribed female artist in East Africa on YouTube and few months later she became the first female artist in East Africa to clock 100 million streams on Boom play

In June 2023, Zuchu through her label (WCB) announced that the singer had surpassed 500 million views on YouTube

She became the first female artist in East Africa and the fifth female artist in Africa to achieve this milestone.
