“I thought it was a prank”: Anne Jirongo recounts final moments with late husband Cyrus

Anne Jirongo , the widow of the late businessman and politician Cyrus Jirongo , has emotionally recounted the last moments she shared with her husband before his tragic death in a road accident on Jamhuri Day.

Speaking during a memorial service held on Saturday, December 27, 2025, Anne revealed that she last saw Cyrus on December 12 after he drove to meet her at a supermarket parking lot.

“He called me at around 12:34 pm, and we spoke for about three minutes and forty-five seconds. He later called again at around 2:30 pm, asking where I was, and I told him I was in the supermarket,” she narrated.

According to Anne, Cyrus said he wanted to see her and drove to her location. “I went outside and sat in his car.

We talked for a while, then he left. He told me he was going back to the office to build my castles and later go meet the Honourable Speaker Wetang’ula,” she said.

However, later that evening, Cyrus made a FaceTime call that would be their last conversation. “He told me he never even went to the office. He said he was feeling tired and had gone home to sleep,” Anne recalled.

That night, she said she felt unusually restless. “I didn’t sleep well. The feelings were really strong. At exactly midnight, I was awake and I couldn’t decode what I was feeling. I could hear voices saying, ‘It is over,’” she said.

At around 3:20 am, Anne received a call that changed everything. “I saw his call, but when I picked it up, it was not him. Someone asked me if I knew the owner of the phone,” she said.

“They told me he had been involved in an accident and was unconscious.”

Initially thinking it was a prank, Anne said her fears were confirmed when a police officer identified herself. “She said she was Corporal Rhoda from Naivasha Police Station,” Anne noted.

Cyrus Jirongo died in the early hours of December 12, 2025, following a car accident in Naivasha. “It is a terrible loss.

It was so shocking to speak to someone and a few hours later you’re told he’s no more,” Anne said.
