Mt Elgon Member of Parliament Fred Kapondi has condemned the killing of popular politician Nathan Wasama, calling upon authorities to promtly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Speaking to Radio47 on Friday, August 7, MP Kapondi could not fathom why someone could plan the senseless murder of the former Chesikaki Ward Councillor.

“Nimepata habari hizi usiku kupitia social media. Nimeshtuka sana, kitendo hicho ni kitendo cha kinyama na huwezi dhania inaweza tendeka. Ni kitendo cha kulaani na kushutumu,” Kapondi told Radio47.

The lawmaker called upon members of the public to cooperate fully with authorities to help find the masterminds behind the shocking murder.

“Uchunguzi ufanywe haraka na mtu yeyote mwenye taarifa inayoweza kusaidia katika uchunguzi wajitokeze wasaidie polisi katika uchunguzi huo,” Kapondi said.

He rued that security in the area had deteriorated in the recent past.

“Tumekuwa na challenges za usalama eneo hili. Security wanastahili kuchukua hatua ipasavyo kuhakikisha mambo ya usalama yanashugulikiwa,” he said, adding, “hivi majuzi watu wamechoma nyumba kule Chebyuk, so usalama inastahili idhibitiwe vilivyo.”

What happened?

Wasama was killed by unknown assailants on Thursday, August 6 night at his home. According to reports, the assailants raided his residence and shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene.

A video making rounds on Facebook shows locals, overwhelmed with emotions, sorrounding the late Wasama’s body which bore a bullet wound on his chest.

The killing comes weeks after Wasama declared his intention to vie for the Mt Elgon Parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
