Kenya is now in worse state than darkest days of KANU regime – Martha Karua

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has claimed that the current Kenya Kwanza government has misled the country into a worse state.

According to Martha Karua, Kenyans are going through a difficult situation, worse than what citizens experienced during the darkest Kanu regime under president Daniel Moi (now deceased).

Karua made the remarks during an interview with former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo on the Savage Politics show, whose Youtube video circulated on social media on Sunday March 24, 2024.

Speaking during the interview, the Narc-Kenya leader maintained that the country is being mismanaged by the Kenya Kwanza regime that does not care about its citizens.

“Look at our worst and best times. Our worst being the end days of the KANU era, our best being the Kibaki days, especially the initial days. I can say without any equivocation that where we are is worse than the darkest days of KANU,” said Karua.

Karua argued that President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government can only be compared to the late President Daniel Moi’s Kanu regime.

“The burden of taxation which is so heavy yet the budget outlook statement is clear that the burden is going to triple if not go beyond that, and the deterioration of services and quality of leadership makes me look back at where we have been,” she said.

At the same time, Karua, commonly referred to as ‘iron lady’ blamed Kenyan voters for electing leaders with questionable track records.

“The problem goes back to us individually and collectively as the voters in Kenya. We became so comfortable during the Kibaki era and the dividends spilled over to the Uhuru era. The economy was still growing and things were not as bad,” she said.

“As voters, we have taken leadership for granted, you think anything goes. Why would you elect leaders with no history of performing, and the history they have is history you will not even agree to take in someone as a farmhand,” she questioned.

She advised Kenyans to elect leaders with integrity and clean track records, adding that voters should remain vigilant and hold elected leaders accountable.

“If you are crying today because of being unable to pay the bills, if you are complaining of overtaxation, of general abuse of public resources, and mismanagement of the country, why then do you hire the worst?” Karua asked.

Karua urged Kenyans to always look out for the best candidates while voting for leaders starting from MCAs, MPs, senators and governors up to the president.

The Narc Kenya leader emphasized that the only way to rectify the current leadership situation in the country is by using the voting power wisely at the ballot.
