Gachagua to Ruto: ‘Your fate is sealed’

Former Deputy President and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fresh attack on President William Ruto, dismissing his continued references to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta as a political opponent ahead of the 2027 General Election. His remarks were published on X on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Gachagua argued that Ruto’s 2022 election victory was not proof that Uhuru had failed politically, saying the former president had simply not convinced enough Kenyans at the time to reject Ruto.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta did not sufficiently convince me and a majority of Kenyans that you were incapable of leading the country. Today, you have proven to me and the whole country that President Uhuru was right.”

He accused Ruto of using Uhuru as a “bad deflection” and instead identified ordinary Kenyans as the President’s political opponents.

“Your opponents are the people of Kenya: the payslip holders whose payslips you have raided, the GenZs whom you have abducted and killed, the Christians whose churches you have defiled, the business people whom you have run out of business.”

Gachagua also cited the high cost of living and challenges facing patients, parents and students, declaring that “55 million Kenyans are your opponents.”

The DCP leader pointed to the recent political contest in Ol Kalou, where his party secured the parliamentary seat, describing the outcome as “just a dress rehearsal for the forthcoming General Election.”

On the 2027 presidential race, Gachagua said opposition leaders were working towards identifying a single candidate to face Ruto.

“Very soon we shall let you know the man or woman to whom you shall hand over.”

He concluded with a warning to the President, urging him to begin preparing his handover notes.

“Your fate is sealed; Italians would kindly tell you, ‘Il tuo destino è segnato!’ Finito!”
