Former Migori governor Okoth Obado and his co-convicts will appear before the High Court in Nairobi today September 16, 2026 for sentencing over the murder of Sharon Otieno ,26, who was a student at Rongo University in 2018.
The court proceedings mark the last chapter of an eight year judicial process that caught the eye of the public. In July a High Court judge convicted the three men after prosecution proved their case .
The court found out that all three men acted together in coordination with the former governor having the motive to kill the young lady and financing the ‘mission’. His personal assistant helped in kidnapping the victim while the other facilitated logistical support and concealing the crime.
Sharon’s family informed the officers of emotional and financial burden they have had to perservere during this hard time while the court proceedings are going on .
They also asked the court to consider compensation whereas Obado asked the court for forbearance saying factors like age, health, his state of never been convicted before and also his conduct throughout the trial process.
