Kisumu: Detectives arrest two suspects in murder of M-Pesa agent

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is on a manhunt for the prime suspect in the murder of a 23-year-old M-Pesa agent in Kisumu County.

On Friday, sleuths arrested two members of the gang which supposedly carried out the violent robbery and murder of Grace Awino Adero within Kondele in January this year.

Apparently, the thugs attacked Adero and her husband after closing hours where they violently robbed them and shot dead the lady. Her husband is said to have escaped death narrowly.

The unidentified robbers, believed to be part of a larger gang, then escaped aboard an unmarked motorcycle to their reported hideout in Kasagam area.

On that night, police officers on patrol in Kasagam spotted five persons in a Toyota Axio under registration KDL 301P. As they approached the vehicle, the occupants fled, leaving the car behind.

The officers recovered one AK47 rifle (without a magazine) and homemade pistol as well as four mobile phones during the search. Investigations later revealed the car was hired. Ballistic probe also showed that the AK47 had been obtained from Uganda.

Two months later, on April 18, DCI detectives identified and smoked out one of the suspects from their hideout in Kasarani area- Byron Billy Owuor, who played for Kisumu Allstars football Club.

He was arraigned at Winam Senior Principal Magistrate’s Court and prosecution granted 14 days to hold him pending conclusion of investigations.

After grilling, the sleuths discovered the identity of the gang’s ring leader- Robert Wakolo Okoth alias Michael Osama.

Detectives and Kisumu police officers in a joint operation raided his home in Kasagam near Rai Primary School, where they only found his 17-year-old brother and arrested him. The minor is also a suspected gang member.

“Discovered in the house were an AK47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62*39mm ammunitions, 6 rounds of .38 special ammunition fired by pistols, five ID cards belonging to different persons, a Kenya Armed Forces Comrades Association card, mobile phone and a green camouflage bag,” the investigative agency added.

A manhunt is still on for the prime suspect in the murder and possibly other crimes within Kisumu County.
