Manchester United finally makes a move for Sofyan Amrabat

Manchester United is in the final stages of securing a loan agreement for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

During the summer, discussions about Amrabat’s move to Old Trafford persisted, with his eagerness to join the Red Devils evident.

His current contract with the Italian club extends until 2024.

Amrabat, a skilled defensive midfielder, gained prominence representing Morocco in the World Cup, reaching the semi-finals in Qatar last year.

This achievement drew the attention of several prominent European clubs. Concurrently, Manchester United had been considering acquiring Bayern Munich’s midfielder Ryan Gravenberch in the summer transfer window.

However, their pursuit of Gravenberch has encountered a setback this month.

Time is however bad for Manchester United who are left with just three days to secure Amrabat’s loan before the Premier League’s transfer deadline of Friday this week.

The likelihood of a permanent transfer for the Moroccan international seems low due to the ongoing Financial Fair Play situation faced by the club.

United had been fined £256,000 in July for a violation of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Last season, Amrabat played 29 league matches for Fiorentina, aiding the team’s ninth-place finish in the Serie A rankings.

Manchester United made an unexpected £2.5 million bid to secure a loan agreement for Marc Cucurella from Chelsea.

The awareness that their primary left-back, Luke Shaw, is facing an extended period on the sidelines due to injury drove this move.

United considers Cucurella the preferred candidate due to his compatibility with Erik ten Hag’s tactical approach.

Despite featuring on the substitute list for Chelsea’s first three games this season, the Spanish international has not made an appearance in the Premier League so far.

Additionally, Manchester United is currently in the process of selling their second-choice goalkeeper, Dean Henderson, to Crystal Palace.

This decision follows their earlier signing of Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce to take over the position.
