Prominent lawyer takes helm of Rotary Club of Nanyuki

A prominent Nanyuki lawyer, educator and community leader has been entrusted with leading one of Laikipia’s most influential service organizations.

Alex Mwangi Kamau was officially installed as President of the Rotary Club of Nanyuki during a colorful ceremony attended by Rotarians, business leaders, family members and community partners.

Kamau, an Advocate of the High Court, takes over leadership of the club after years of service within Rotary, most recently as Director of Governance and Ethics.

In addition to leading his law firm, he serves as Chair of the Advocacy Committee at the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Laikipia Chapter and sits on several boards in the region.

Addressing members after his installation, Kamau challenged Rotarians to recognize the potential that exists within their own communities. The newly installed president said education would remain central to his vision for the club, citing the Rotary Club of Nanyuki Scholarship Fund as one of the initiatives closest to his heart.

“We must continue investing in our young people. We must continue believing in the potential that exists right here among us. Because when we recognise the power within, when we nurture it, and when we give it room to grow, that is when we create lasting impact.”

He also spoke passionately about the power of recognizing local talent and investing in young people through education.

“We often fail to recognise the resources within us. We overlook the talent, the brilliance, and the potential that sits right beside us,” Kamau explained

Kamau also signaled a renewed focus on growing Rotary’s visibility and membership.

“People must know the impact we strive to create. People must see the lives we touch. People must understand the value of Rotary,” he challenged those who attended the installation, adding that the club would be intentional about sharing its success stories and building new partnerships.

The installation marked the end of a successful term by outgoing President Rebecca Ngatia, who reflected on a year that saw the club expand its scholarship programme, support education projects, plant thousands of trees and increase membership. Offering advice to her successor, she urged him to embrace teamwork and ambition.

“Our fundraising events this year were a massive success. In December, our Christmas Edition. Motormaze event made history by raising an incredible 1.2 million shillings. In April, we hit the golf course for our annual Golf Tournament, raising about 600,000 shillings. Every single shilling raised from the golf tournament went straight into our Scholarship Fund. Thanks to that generosity, 10 bright students are comfortably in school today,”  she concluded

For Kamau, the challenge ahead is clear: build on the club’s strong foundation while expanding its impact across Laikipia and beyond.
