The Beretta pistol recovered following a fatal shootout with a violent robbery suspect in Joska, Machakos County, on Monday, July 13 has been linked to Court of Appeal Judge Aggrey Muchelule.
According to a police report seen by TV47 Digital, Justice Muchelule says he only learnt that the gun was missing from his New Kitusuru home when he was informed by police that it had been discovered in Joska.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Justice Muchelule is a licensed firearm holder. However, his license expired on 1st October 2025.
The jurist told police that after receiving a call on Tuesday, July 14, informing him that the firearm had been recovered, he went to check for it in the house where he had kept it and discovered it was missing.
“He stated that he does not usually carry the firearm. He further stated that the last time he physically checked it was in October 2025, when he intended to renew his firearm licence. However, he later forgot to complete the renewal process,” the Spring Valley Police Station report reads in part.
The police say that the missing firearm details are as follows;
Make: Beretta Serial Number: H20930Y Ammunition: Fifteen (15) rounds of 9MM.
The Joska shootout
Police say the suspect is believed to have been part of a criminal network behind a series of violent robberies across Nairobi, Kiambu and Machakos counties.
Detectives from DCI Headquarters joined forces with their DCI Matungulu counterparts to launch a raid on a house in Joska Town, where the suspect had reportedly taken refuge in his girlfriend’s house.
Upon identifying themselves and ordering the occupants to open the door, the suspect opened fire through a kitchen window, spraying bullets at the officers. Detectives returned fire in self-defence.
After securing the premises and gaining entry, the detectives discovered the suspect lying fatally wounded inside the house.
Preliminary investigations strongly link the suspect to the recent daylight robbery along General Mathenge Road in Spring Valley, Westlands, where armed thugs terrorised diners, snatching phones and valuables before fleeing on motorcycles.
Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway to trail down the suspect’s accomplices, who remain at large.
