Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has opposed the proposed disposal of Safaricom PLC shares, terming the telecommunications giant a strategic national asset that must remain under Kenyan protection.
In a statement posted on his X account on June 18, 2026, Kalonzo said he had appeared as lead counsel in Court of Appeal Civil Application No. E261 of 2026, a case challenging the proposed share transaction.
“Earlier today, I appeared as lead counsel in Court of Appeal Civil Application No. E261 of 2026 – the matter concerning the proposed disposition of Safaricom PLC shares,” he said.
He noted that the matter stems from conservatory orders previously issued by the High Court and is now before the Court of Appeal.
“At the heart of it is a principle that admits no compromise: Safaricom PLC is not merely a corporation. It is a national institution, conceived in Kenya, built by Kenyans, and sustained by the tens of millions who depend on it every single day,” Kalonzo stated.
The former Vice President strongly warned against any move to sell the company, arguing that such a decision would amount to undermining national sovereignty.
“To sell it is to sell Kenya’s soul and body,” he said.
Kalonzo emphasized that the case will be pursued on constitutional and legal grounds, insisting that public interest must guide the court’s decision.
“We will present our case with the full force of the Constitution, the rule of law, and the sovereign interests of the Kenyan people behind us,” he stated.
He added that the fight was not merely legal but also a matter of national protection, saying, “Justice must prevail and Kenya must be protected.”
The case is expected to continue at the Court of Appeal as parties present arguments over the proposed transaction involving Safaricom PLC, Kenya’s largest telecommunications company.
