A recent public perception survey conducted by Kenya Track Survey has ranked the top-performing Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Murang’a County, highlighting a growing preference among residents for leaders who prioritize development, accountability, and effective representation at the grassroots level.
The survey, which collected views from residents across the county’s wards, assessed MCAs based on their visibility, accessibility, development record, responsiveness to public concerns, and effectiveness in championing the interests of wananchi. The findings suggest that voters are increasingly judging leaders by their performance and impact rather than political affiliations.
Emerging as the county’s top-performing MCA is Francis Kibe Kamau of Ithiru Ward, who secured the number one position in the rankings. Residents credited his leadership to active engagement with constituents, support for development projects, and commitment to addressing issues affecting the local community.
Peter Munga Njuguna of Murarandia Ward was ranked second, while Gerald Wambugu Mwangi of Kamacharia Ward secured the third position. The survey indicates that the leaders have earned public confidence through their involvement in development initiatives, oversight of county projects, and efforts to ensure efficient service delivery within their respective wards.
The rankings further placed Moses Gachui Mungai of Kihumbuini Ward in fourth position and Hillary Muigai Muchoki of Ichagaki Ward in fifth place. Their recognition reflects strong public approval of their accessibility and commitment to addressing community needs.
Also featured among the county’s top performers are Morris Thuku Gathoni of Kiru Ward, who was ranked sixth, Samson Mukora of Kagunduini Ward in seventh place, Moses Macharia Mirara of Kangari Ward in eighth, Simon Mwaura Wamwea of Ng’araria Ward in ninth, and Charles Karina Machigo of Township Ward in tenth position.
According to the survey findings, residents highly value leaders who maintain transparency, regularly communicate progress on development projects, and remain accessible to the people they represent.
Respondents particularly cited initiatives in education, road infrastructure, water connectivity, healthcare improvement, agricultural support, and youth and women empowerment as key indicators of effective leadership.
The survey also points to an emerging trend in Murang’a County where performance-based leadership is increasingly becoming the benchmark for political success. Residents expressed greater confidence in leaders who actively participate in public forums, monitor development projects, and advocate for equitable distribution of county resources.
The findings reflect the growing maturity of devolution, where citizens expect their ward representatives to deliver tangible results .
As county governments continue to play a central role in development, MCAs are increasingly being judged on their ability to transform policies and budgets into meaningful improvements in the lives of residents.
The rankings serve as recognition for leaders who have demonstrated commitment to public service while also challenging other elected representatives to strengthen their engagement with communities and focus on delivering measurable development outcomes.
