Mwea Member of Parliament Mary Maingi has defended her decision to support the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, insisting she stands by her vote.
Maingi dismissed claims that her decision was influenced by political pressure, stating that the decision was anchored on her own assessment of the former DPs leadership.
“I have no regrets. I would make the same decision again,” she said, maintaining that her position was guided by her own assessment of leadership.
Maingi further argued that Gachagua was not well known to many voters in the Mount Kenya region prior to his nomination as running mate to President William Ruto in the 2022 General Election.

“That narrative is not true. Many people only came to know him after he was picked,” she said.
Her remarks come as political divisions persist in the region following Gachagua’s removal from office in October 2024, with leaders taking differing positions on the fallout.
At the same time, the legislator expressed support for Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, saying he understands his role and is delivering on his responsibilities.
“He knows what is expected of him and is doing his job,” she added.
Maingi’s comments are expected to further stir debate within Mount Kenya as discussions around leadership and political alignment in the region continue.
